Chocolate gourami (Sphaerichthys osphromenoides) belongs to the labyrinth family (Belontiidae).
Its name is due to dark brown, chocolate, body color.
Uneven whitish stripes pass along the head and sides. The ventral fins are red. Anal and dorsal are low and long.
As food for feeding chocolate gourami, live and various dry feeds are used.
Maintenance and care
Need an aquarium of 70 liters for two pairs of fish. It should have living plants, driftwood, a place for swimming, dim lighting. The aquarium is covered. It is necessary to carry out aeration, filtration and change up to 30% of the water volume once a week. Water hardness should be 4-10 °, t - 25 - 28 ° C, pH level not higher than 6.5.
Producers are kept separately for two weeks before spawning. The volume of spawning is about 50 liters. Water hardness should be up to 3 °, pH not higher than 6.0, t - 28 - 30 ° C, level - 15 cm. The female spawns, then takes the eggs into her mouth. Two weeks later, fry appear. As a starting feed, it is recommended to use Artemia nauplii.
