Aquarium fish of small size, bright color, belonging to the "haracin" family, better known as tetra roach. The usual habitat is the La Plata River, flowing in Argentina. Sizes range from 6cm to 10cm. It differs from its usual form by elongation and light compression from the sides.
The color is bright orange, the fins and upper eyelid are red, from the tail, along the body, a black stripe is clearly marked. Sometimes, the upper fin is yellow at the base, the pectoral fins are almost invisible and can be completely transparent.
Under natural conditions, they feed on small invertebrates or insects that fall on the surface of the water. In aquarium conditions it eats both dry and frozen, it is they that contribute to a brighter and more saturated color. Any kind of insect is suitable; frequent feeding with dry mixes can cause infertility.
Maintenance and care
This species is unpretentious, contained in aquariums with a volume of 20 to 30 liters, at a temperature of 20-25 ° C.
Puberty is reached on the 6th 10th month, for successful reproduction, water needs to be slightly softened, and the temperature increased by 2-4 ° C.
